iOS does work, but it has one quirk that trips people up: Safari saves downloads to the Files app, not to Photos. The video is on your phone — it is just not in the place you looked first.
Here is the full path, including the step that puts it in your camera roll.

Share icon, then Copy link.
Then choose a resolution and confirm the download.
Files, Downloads, tap and hold, Share, Save Video.
In the X app, tap the share icon under the post and choose Copy link.
Paste into the field at the top. The Paste button works, and so does tap-and-hold then Paste.
iOS asks for confirmation before saving a file. Tap Download in that prompt.
Open the Files app, then On My iPhone or iCloud Drive, then Downloads. The video is there.
Tap and hold the file, choose Share, then Save Video. It now appears in your camera roll.
The camera roll is a managed library rather than a folder, and iOS only lets an app add to it with your explicit permission. Safari's download behaviour puts files in Files, which is why every browser-based download on iOS ends this way. It is a deliberate boundary, not a bug and not something a tool can skip.
Chrome and Firefox on iOS use Safari's engine but handle the download prompt slightly differently. Safari is the most predictable.
Opening this page from inside another app's browser sometimes suppresses the save prompt. Tap the compass or share icon to open it in Safari proper.
It can pause background transfers. Keep the tab in the foreground while a large file downloads.
A 1080p clip is tens of megabytes. iOS fails a download silently if space runs out, so check Settings if a file never appears.
If you save videos often, open the Share sheet in Safari and choose Add to Home Screen. The site ships a web manifest, so it opens full-screen straight onto the downloader — the same convenience as an app, without installing one.
Every tool on this site runs the same resolver — pick whichever matches what you are trying to save.
Paste a link to any public post. Nothing to install, no account, and the options you see are the files the post genuinely contains.
